For calm
The 2 AM calm tea
8 min easy
A warm, herbal tea blend specifically designed for racing thoughts. Caffeine-free. Quietly powerful.
Ingredients
- 1 chamomile tea bag (or 1 tsp dried chamomile)
- 1/2 tsp dried lavender (optional but transformative)
- 1 thin slice fresh ginger
- 1 tsp raw honey
- Squeeze of lemon
- 1 cup boiling water
Steps
- 1Boil water. Pour into your favorite mug.
- 2Add chamomile, lavender, and ginger. Cover with a saucer (this matters — keeps the calming oils in).
- 3Steep for 5 full minutes. Set a timer if you have to.
- 4Strain or remove the bag. Add honey and lemon. Stir slowly.
- 5Hold the mug with both hands. Don't drink it yet. Just hold it for 30 seconds.
- 6Then drink slowly, ideally without your phone.
Why this helps your mood
Chamomile contains apigenin, a compound that binds to the same brain receptors as anti-anxiety medications — but gently. Lavender lowers cortisol (your stress hormone) within minutes of inhaling its aroma. Ginger physically warms you and aids digestion. The ritual of holding a warm mug activates your parasympathetic nervous system — the rest-and-digest mode your body needs but probably hasn't been in for weeks. Make this when you can't sleep. Make this instead of texting them.
